back in biz

Lots to catch up on...big thanks to GT for getting my computer back to normz.

Here are some pics from a poker night hosted at our house on Friday and a GIANT concert in the park on Saturday. (It was kind of like Power to the Peaceful or The Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco). Both were great times. I lost baaaaddd in poker, but I think I may have been drinking too much wine....We all went out to a boliche (dance club/disco) that night until 6 a.m.

At the concert the next afternoon, Abby and I were trampled and shoved around by the excited crowd. I guess the bands that played are very popular. It was fun!

Then on Sunday, Abby and I decided we should get to know the historical part of Córdoba a little better, so we signed up for a tour of La Manzana Jesuita, La Iglesia Catedral and El Cabildo, some very important buildings and churches in Córdoba dating back centuries when the Spaniards first made it into Argentina's interior. Very interesting stuff! Unfortunately, my camera was out of batteries, but if Abby loads pictures online, I'll post them.

Oh, and classes started! I'm taking three classes within the study abroad program, and one directly enrolled with Argentine students. That class is Cultural Anthropology and it is a subject I've always been interested in. In fact, I was seriously considering it as a major back in high school, so it'll be interesting to see how I like it, esepecially when conducted in Spanish. The classes within the study abroad program are History of Argentina (20th century), Spanish III, and Hispano-American Literature. This class seems really neat. The professor is everything I imagined an expert on pre-columbian literature would be. The first day he recited, from memory, a handful of poems from the indigenous Nahuatl tribe and some of his own poetry too. It should definitely be interesting! And tough. Paying attention to classes in Spanish really drains the energy out of you, trust me. But I'm ready for the challenge.
Les mando un beso!
Kate
