on being american

Now, I've only been here 3 days, but I must say: people really have a (unfair) prejudice of Americans. So far I've been talking a lot to Europeans and Australians (Argentinos seem to like us enough), and most are thankfully open-minded enough to know not all Americans are the kind you find worshipping George Bush in the Bible Belt. But I still find myself defending myself and my beliefs. One English guy I met told me he loved Americans and going to the States, and he said something SO funny which makes SO much sense:

"The U.S. is McDonald's and England is Burger King. They both do the same bad shit, but McDonald's gets all the crap for it."

SO true! And hilarious.
