2 weeks, 6 days and counting (seriously, i'm counting).

people keep asking me where i'm going in argentina and then give me a semi-puzzled look when i tell them córdoba. so i thought i'd do a brief debriefing on the city i'll call home for the next five months: (facts all courtesy of wikipedia and the lonely planet guide).

córdoba is in the center of argentina, 700 km west of buenos aires (that's 434.98 miles, according to my cell phone's unit converter). it's the second biggest city in the country (about 1.3 million peeps), known for its industrial history but, moreso, its rich colonial-era buildings. córdoba was founded in 1573, during (obvi) spanish colonialism and was named after the city in spain. córdoba has maintained these historical buildings from this era centuries ago, and has a famous block called la manzana jesuítica (the jesuit block). apparently its beautiful.

today, there are something like 8 universities in córdoba, making it the most student-populated city in latin america--yay! one of those universities is la universidad nacional de córdoba, which is the first university in argentina and one of the firsts in south america. (i'm going to la universidad católica de córdoba, which is only 52 years old). córdoba is known for rich culture as well, and was recently designated as the cultural capital of south america, by la organización capital americana de la cultura. cool!
